About Us

The club was formed in 1960 by a small group of modellers, and was originally known as the East Ham and District Model Railway Society. After moving to Barking in 1970 the name was changed to the Barking and District Model Railway Society, and we continued to flourish under that name at several locations in the Barking and Dagenham area.

In May 2008 we moved our clubroom back to the club's original roots - East Ham. Following the move we also changed our name to East Ham and District Model Railway Club, to reflect our return to East Ham.

The club today has more than 30 members covering a wide range of ages and interests. New members are always welcome, whether you are an experienced modeller or are just starting and want to learn more about the hobby We have layouts in N , OO9, OO, EM and O gauge, some of which have been seen at exhibitions around the country. Meeting Venue

The new clubroom is at the Brian Didsbury Centre on Didsbury Close, East Ham. The club has a library with a large collection of magazines, books and videos, nearly all of railway interest, and which are available for members to borrow.

Meeting Times

The club is available to members seven days a week throughout the year, but the main club night is on Thursdays. Members usually start to arrive from about 7pm onwards. Small groups also meet on other evenings, such as O gauge on Tuesdays and EM on Wednesdays. There is often activity at weekends, especially when panic sets in just before an exhibition.

New members are always welcome, so if you are interested,
contact us, or feel free to come along and have a chat and see what goes on.
